Objection Process
OBJECTION TO THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A SPECIAL RATING AREA
The MGUIP Steering Committee hereby confirms their intent to apply to the eThekwini Municipality for the demarcated area to be established as a Special Rated Area (SRA) to begin operating on 1 July 2025.
The voting approval requirements have been met for the final demarcated area of the MGUIP/SRA:
Residential (Full Title and Sectional Title)
- Requirement: Properties 66% + 1 (512 – YES votes)
- Total Properties: 774 (714 Full title Residential + 60 Complexes/Sectional Title)
- Votes Received: 536 (to be audited and verified)
Business and Commercial Properties
- Requirement: 50% +1 (11 – YES votes)
- Total Properties: 20
- Votes Received: 12
The final boundary of the MGUIP is depicted in the updated map which can be found in the Area Map tab of this website. If your property falls within the final boundary area you will be liable to pay an additional special rate from 1 July 2025 as per the original Draft Business Plan and confirmed in the Final Submission Business Plan.
You may request to view the detailed voting results and lodge an objection to the establishment of the MGUIP/SRA with the Head of Economic Development. This objection must be submitted to NTOMBI.Maema@durban.gov.za using the Objection form to provide reasons which can be downloaded here. Objections must be lodged with the Subject Heading / Reference: MGUIP Objections
The closing date for objections is 15 December 2024.
